Your Portrait session experience

I strive to make our time together fun and relaxed. I will give you direction but I want you to be natural, not overly posed.

Get close. Then get a little closer.

Let's meet somewhere that is meaningful to you. Bring your own props or that old rusty truck. If your horse needs a carrot, I'll most likely have one in my bag. If your dog chases a squirrel, I'll wait for you to call her back. If your little ones decide to run behind a tree, don't fret! Just relax while I run after them with camera in hand.

FAQ

What is the best time of day to schedule my session?

Sessions are generally booked for early morning or late afternoon. When the sun is lower, it gives a nice warm glow. Trust me, when it's high noon, you will be squinting and the harsh shadows will make for unattractive portraits. And as always, we love a cloudy day for that diffused, soft light.

What is a good location for my session?

Think about the look you are going for. Do you want to do a lifestyle session in and around your home? Or maybe you have a favorite park or area you think is picturesque. Maybe at your high school or college campus? Do you like to go boating or rafting at the lake or down the river? How about downtown in the cool alleyways and historic buildings? I'm up for whatever you have in mind and I travel well!

What should I wear?

Again, think about the look you are going for. For family portraits, try not to be too matchy-matchy but definitely coordinate your colors. No busy patterns! We don't want to distract from your beautiful faces. And whatever location you choose, you want to stand out from your background. For instance, if we're shooting against evergreens, don't wear green and camouflage yourself. We want you to pop from your background. You can do a search for "what to wear for my photo session" and you will find some great inspiration boards in the image search. Of course, I am always up for a chat to give tips and guidance so do not hesitate to call or text.
